The Bike shop in Bedoin where we rented bicycles. Quite the scene.
Mike in preparation...
David is ready.
And we are all set.
In the first few km
There we must go...
I rode without my helmet on the way up - too hot and uncomfortable. Rental helmets...
Early on the steep pitch.
Oh, and they label the route for you.
We thought of Jay.
They paint the roads when the tour goes through. Here is an homage to Luxembourgers.
That guy and I climbed together for a long time. He stopped at the Chalet Reynard, and in the last 2 km before arriving there he started yelling.
Same guy ahead, and now a walker. This walker we saw the next day and he claimed to have reached the summit. Good on 'im.
Chalet Reynard and my fanta in the rearview...
These people made it, but I am not sure how happy they were at the top. They get a lot of points for toughness. I gave them a lot of encouragement.
The barren upper slopes.
The really barren upper slopes.
The Simpson Memorial on the way up.
We have less than 500m to the summit and this guy starts walking!
Snapped just below the summit.
People stop at the memorial for pictures, so I did too on the way down. I also waited for David here.
From the Simpson memorial.
The memorial itself.
The bike - pretty good for a rental. Never, ever get a Bontrager seat. Ouch!
David Arriving at the Simpson.
David heading for the top after a break.
Lots of people going by, and lots of stories. The guy in front was passing the guy in back.
Mike and David stopping for lunch on the way down.
And as we return to Bedoin...
